A 27-year-old British woman named Kayla Michelle Finley got into a serious predicament with the law after committing a seemingly bizarre crime caused by her forgetfulness. The unsuspecting woman got jailed after the authorities noticed an outstanding arrest warrant issued to Finley’s name. She spent a night in jail and had to pay the hefty fine of $2,000 following her arrest.
It turns out the 27-year-old Finley absolutely neglected the terms and conditions of a video cassette store. She rented the romantic comedy “Monster-In-Law” starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda more than 9 years ago. When the 72 hour rental period expired and Ms. Finley failed to return the video tape the store’s manager took action by requesting an arrest warrant with the Pickens County Police Department. Although the store has long been out of business the arrest warrants have no expiry dates.
To make the situation even more bizarre Finley had gone to the Pickens Police Department in the first place only to report a crime she had witnessed prior her unexpected arrest.
In the end Finley spent a night in jail and was charged with minor larceny and for irresponsibly failing to return a rented VHS cassette nearly a decade ago.
