The police officers from Atlanta Police Department have made fools of themselves. It’s not the first time they allowed a fiasco to go public and it probably won’t be the last. However, this time they had to pay the price for acting neglectful.
In 2010 Teresa Culpepper reported that her truck got stolen. However, when the Atlanta police officers arrived, they arrested her instead of the real criminal. Why? Because the woman on the run was also named Teresa. The robber had different physical description, different last name and different date of birth. But that didn’t stop the authorities from arresting Teresa Culpepper just because the women had the same first names and were of the same race.
Culpepper spent 53 days in jail, wrongfully accused and arrested without any evidence. When she came out, she sued the city after the wrongful arrest and Atlanta Police Department had to pay for their mistake.
