Everybody knows better than to mess with 911. That includes prank phone calls and any other calls, which aren’t considered as emergency situations and don’t include life-threatening circumstances. Calling 911 in North America without any case of emergency is considered to be a serious crime.
Audrey Scott of Alliance, Ohio, probably knew that, but was too drunk to remember what exactly is considered to be an emergency. Allegedly, the woman called the hot-line several times and each time the dispatchers answered, she would tell them to find her a husband. Obviously, the tipsy woman had been feeling extremely lonely and in an urgent need of a man. However, instead of getting her wish, she got a three-night stay in jail.
Abusing the emergency system is some serious crime, which Audrey didn’t think through. Allegedly, if you call 911 by mistake, you have to confirm it to the dispatcher. If you continuously dial the line as a prank, you’ll get an undisclosed fine. If you decide to abuse 911 further, you’ll get jailed just like Audrey.
