There is a project called KEO whose main purpose is to send a space time capsule via a satellite that will orbit around Earth. This time capsule is supposed to land on our planet after 50,000 years have passed. It will hold the messages from various cultures and numerous people from the planet.
The project was designed back in 2003 but has been delayed many times. It’s currently planned to launch in 2014. The organizers of the project are eagerly inviting as many people as possible to participate in the message gathering. They could be posted mainly via the Internet but everyone is encouraged to gather the messages of children, elderly and illiterate people so that every single country, demographic and culture on Earth is represented aboard KEO. After the project is complete and the satellite is in space all the messages will be available to read online.
The space capsule is created of titanium and aluminum alloys and is designed to withstand the 50,000 year journey before re-entering Earth’s atmosphere. It will hold not only the messages of mankind but a diamond with a single drop of human blood, samples of Earth, sea water and air as well as an engraved human DNA genome. It will also have digital photographs of every single culture and an encyclopedic summary of all human history and knowledge.
