A 14 year old teen was banned from flying with an Etihad Airlines airplane, because she was allegedly too ginger.
Grace Wain and her family were about to get on a plane from Manchester to the Maldives earlier this July when the airport staff told her she couldn’t get on the plane because of her looks. The 14 year old teenager, who is naturally ginger and has an extremely pale complexion, worried the staff members. They didn’t state “she’s too ginger” as the official reason as to why they were refusing to let Grace on the plane, but they did say they were worried about the girl’s health.
As it turned out, Etihad Airlines thought Grace was sick because of her pale skin tone. Her parents, 44 year old Sheena and 45 year old Paul, explained that there was nothing wrong with their daughter and that her looks were completely natural. However, the staff didn’t believe them and called a medic, who had to examine the teenager. The medic ruled out that there was indeed nothing wrong with the teen’s health, but he did request a special letter from her doctor so that the girl and her parents could verify that she was fit to board the plane.
In the end, Grace was allowed to fly to the Maldives with her parents, her sister and younger brother. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the vacation of their dreams. As if the troubles before the flight weren’t bad enough, a couple of bags from the family’s baggage got lost.
The teenager, who is Scottish, didn’t comment on the case herself. However, something tells us she and her family won’t be using Etihad Airlines’ services in the near future again after the troubles they had to go through during their vacation.
