Joshua Silverman, held in prison with drug-related charges, helped the police catch criminals who escaped with a prison transportation van. Silverman and some other criminals were to be transported to US jail agencies, but things didn’t go exactly as planned.
The guards left eight prisoners in the unsupervised van in order to deliver some ill inmates to a hospital. Silverman’s inmates, Lester Burns and Michael Coleman, saw their chance for escape, kicked out a partition in the van and hijacked it. After a mile they ditched the van and set off on foot. Silverman and the other five inmates remained in the van where they were believed to have found the cell phone on which Silverman called 911.
He reported the escape, instead of making one himself, and even agreed to wait for a police officer to find them. His only condition was that he would not be shot. In the end, the police was able to bring back all of the eight fugitives, including Burns and Coleman.
The day was saved by none other but a criminal himself!
