History knows many cases of wrongful imprisonments. However, when a person gets arrested for an absurd reason, such as possessing baking soap, the news is ground-breaking.
Michael Harman, a former trooper from Florida, got slammed with a heavy lawsuit from attorney Desiree Bannasch. The police officer arrested one of her clients, Melvin Scott, for possession of illegal substances. Scott was thrown in jail for 8 whole months, because he was unable to pay his $50,000 bond. According to the trooper’s report, he found drugs in Scott’s car. At that time the officer was part of the Florida Highway Patrol and his word weighted more than Scott’s one. However, the truth broke out and Scott was released after spending his 8 months behind bars.
Reports state that this isn’t Harman’s first offence against civilians. Under a three year period of time the officer has already had 11 investigations of improper behavior, violations of his authorized power and misuse of force towards suspects.
