Marathon runners are crazy when it comes to strength and endurance. However, world record beaters are even crazier. Take Kim Allen, for example – the amazing woman who set a new world record this December.
Kim, who’s from New Zealand, didn’t let pain or weariness and exhaustion bring her spirit down. The 47 year old woman took off on foot from Auckland on the 19th of December and didn’t stop for sleep, food or water until she managed to beat the world record for longest distance running without any sleep held by Pam Reed. Reed set the record of 486km in 2005. Several days ago Kim broke it by running full 500km for 86 hours, 11 minutes and 9 seconds. The woman had gone almost 4 days without sleeping, but she never gave up, even though her ankles were swollen and her feet had blisters.
Kim tried to break Reed’s record in 2012, but her body gave up on her at 370km. This year she finally managed to set the new record.
