An enthusiast from the Australian Gold Coast has spent a decade persistently training his pet mice to skateboard and even surf .
42-year-old Shane Willmott has been spending an incredible amount of time and with a lot of patience has managed to teach his pet rodents to surf in the warm season and ride skateboards in the winter.
Today, amazed neighbors can watch the cute little animals ride their small skateboards in Willmott’s backyard.
Their owner and trainer has denied that any animal cruelty has been involved in the training process and actually insists that his pets enjoy their new hobbies. He claims that he hasn’t hurt or caused the death of any of his mice while teaching them to surf and skate.
His strange idea was born 10 years ago, when he began placing the newly born rodents on a small skateboard and pulling them around gently via attached strings. He claims that mice are perfect for skateboarding and surfing because of their low weight.
Today, the happy little mice can ride their boards by themselves and even perform some tricks and jumps, and the little fellas definitely seem to enjoy themselves whilst at it. They have their own custom made “skate park” in Shane Willmott’s backyard, and enjoy their unusual hobby every day.
