To say that Laszlo Andraschek from Hungary wasn’t at a great place at that time of his life would be an understatement. The 55-year-old man was jobless, homeless, indebted and on his way to a program for recovering alcoholics as he was battling his addiction. Andraschek only had a few coins left in his pocket but all of a sudden he decided to spend them on a lottery ticket. He picked six numbers and when the shop assistant reminded him to pick one more as they needed to be seven, Andraschek chose the number 24 thinking it didn’t really matter anyway. However, fate proved him wrong as the homeless man won $2.8 million worth.
Andraschek paid all his debts and bought a car for himself as well as apartments for his children and their families. He also helped other family members in need but most importantly Andraschek decided to spend half of the money helping out strangers. The man donated a significant amount of money to a homeless shelter and set up a foundation aiming to help domestic abuse victims and addicts. Andraschek stated that even though he had become rich overnight, he had not become a different person.
