A young Chinese man nearly became blind after texting his girlfriend in the dark.
The 26 year old unnamed man from China spent several hours sending text messages to his girlfriend on his phone. Thanks to staring at his phone’s screen for so long in the darkness, the man started seeing sudden flashes appearing in his eyesight. Shortly afterwards he sought medical help and found out what was going on. The doctors diagnosed that the retina of his left eye had actually detached itself from the eye. The man had to undergo immediate surgery in order to prevent the detachment from making him blind.
According to optometric experts, this event occurs often among elder people. However, by the looks of it it’s also happening among young people as well. The experts claim that our eyes are actually evolved to such lengths that they can observe three-dimensional object. Thus, we search for a 3D object in our phone’s flat screens, which are actually 2D screens, and we over-focus on them while trying to find what isn’t actually there.
