Japan is a country famous for its peculiarities when it comes to TV and social media. In November 2009 the first ever wedding between a real person and a video game character occurred. This was when the 27-year-old social media user and an aspired gamer known only by his pseudonym, Sal 9000, decided to throw one of the most unusual weddings in Japanese history.
In front of thousands of witnesses watching the live streaming of his wedding ceremony, Sal 9000 married the Nintendo DS video game character Nene Anegasaki. His bride was real only in the virtual reality of the dating Sim game called LovePlus. The game was developed and distributed by Konami. In the game Nene Agasaki is a graduating high-school student who works from time to time in the restaurant owned by her family. She is quite mature for her age and enjoys watching horror movies and doing the chores in the house.
Apparently, Sal 9000 fell in love with her character and threw a big semi-serious wedding which had many real guests, a DJ and music and, of course, a kiss. Some users commented that Sall 9000 may be suffering from Toonophilia, also known as Schediaphilia, a condition in which a person is strongly attracted to virtual characters and perceives them as real people.
