Food waste is a serious issue for urbanized countries such as USA, France and Germany. One European decided to protest against food waste and raise attention to this issue through a bike trip he made from Paris to Warsaw.
Baptiste Dubanchet took off on his bike from Paris, France, and managed to make it all the way up to Warsaw, Poland, eating nothing but garbage food. He dug up provisions from garbage bins and containers from all over Luxembourg, Germany, the Czech Republic, Belgium and France. He also asked bakeries, supermarkets and restaurants for food they were about to throw away. The man was stunned by the amount of bread, yogurt, fruits and vegetables were thrown away and by the fact that most of them were still edible. During his dumpster-diving adventures Dubanchet was amazed when he was taken for a homeless person in the Czech Republic for eating garbage food.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has estimated that nearly a third of the produced food in the world is wasted.
