If you’re a fan of the notorious James Bond then you’ve probably watched Roger Moore portraying the famous agent 007 in The Spy Who Loved Me from 1977. You probably also remember the amazing submarine car that Bond navigated both underwater and on land.
The “car” that was used in the underwater shots is actually a white Lotus Esprit. Shortly after the filming was over the Lotus was admired by a number of fans on a variety of car shows in order to promote the Bond movie. However, its shine and authenticity were soon forgotten and it was stored in a locker in Long Island. The promoters of the movie paid the storage fees for the upcoming decade, but they soon forgot about the vehicle. The storage company decided to run a blind bidding auction after the 10 years had passed, since they couldn’t find the locker’s owner.
The couple that won the bidding for less than $100 later sold the Lotus to the business magnate Elon Musk for $920,167!
