Have you ever had that strange feeling that you’ve woken up and done something, but at the same time you’re still sleeping? Like when you turn off your alarm or go to the bathroom and when you actually wake up, you realize you’ve been asleep the whole time?
It’s called “false awakening”. It occurs sometimes when you’re dreaming and it makes you believe you’ve already woken up. It’s so vivid and realistic that you’re convinced you’re not dreaming anymore. After this false awakening you usually dream you’re doing everyday stuff – like cooking, cleaning, making a call or turning off the alarm.
There’s no need to worry if you’re experiencing false awakening. It’s very common. You may even experience two or more false awakenings in one single dream. Bertrand Russel claimed that he had experienced “about a hundred” of these occurrences.
The explanation is simple – your mind is still dreaming and that’s why you aren’t really awake.
