An engineer from Montreal, Canada called Joseph Michael Liu Kai-Tsu Roqueni has embarked upon an incredible journey. The 32-year-old man who describes himself as “Chexican”, because of his Chinese, Canadian and Mexican heritage, is going to raise money for different charities by running 12,000 miles barefoot all the way from Canada to Argentina.
Roqueni began his trek on July 2, 2013 and plans to finish in about 18 months in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fago, the southernmost city on the globe. He is not the first person in the world to cover such an immense distance on foot but he would be the first one to do it without running gear. Roqueni is keen on running shoeless, first of all, because no one has ever done it before and, second, because he would safe a lot from not buying numerous pairs of shoes. Also, he won’t have to carry any extra luggage which would only slow him down.
However, the barefoot runner has taken a few pairs of running sandals with him to use just in case his feet are really hurting. Roqueni would also have to deal with isolation during his trek to Argentina. Currently, he has just left El Campo, Texas. Roqueni still has 14 countries to run across and thousands of miles to go.
