Eike Fuhrken Batista is a Brazilian businessman whose wealth comes from the mining industry and exploration of gas and oil. He is also the chairman of the EBX Group – a conglomerate consisting of five different companies dealing with energy, mining, gas and oil, logistics and offshore services.
At the beginning of 2012 Batista’s wealth was $30.0 billion, which put him in seventh place on the list of the wealthiest people in the world. The businessman was also the richest person in Brazil. However, in July 2013 estimates showed that his fortune was reduced to $200 million because of debts and falling stock prices of his company.
Batista had publicly announced he would become the richest man in the world by 2015, but instead lost 99% of his wealth in less than a year. Financial media claim he has set a record for the fastest loss of a fortune.
