Every politician has made a fool of himself at least once in his lifetime, but one particular congressman used to act as a clown for money before he made a name for himself in politics.
Francisco Everardo Oliveira Silva, also known by his stage name Tiririca, was born in an extremely poor Brazilian neighborhood in Itapipoca, São Paulo. He quit school at the early age of nine and ran off with a circus group in order to become a clown. With the help of the circus he managed to self-fund a music album entitled Florentina. It turned out his album was a total hit with its 1.5 million sold copies. However, his musical career soon went down and he turned into a television comedian and humorist, which provided him some income until the Brazilian Republic Party invited him to become part of the National Congress.
While most people saw him as a joke, Tiririca actually won the elections with a great number of votes and became a congressman. He still represents the state of São Paulo.
