Dr Zenko Hrynkiw was needed for an emergency surgery at the Trinity Medical Center in Alabama. However, the doctor was situated miles away and all roads were locked down due to a severe snowstorm. Dr Hrynkiw tried getting there by vehicle but he only managed to get few blocks away. Knowing that he was the only surgeon in the area who could perform the operation, Dr Hrynkiw called the hospital and told them he was going to get there on foot.
The reception was really bad so the hospital stuff barely understood him when he called being already on his way. They notified the police who began searching for Dr Hrynkiw in order to transport him to the Trinity Medical Center but it was impossible to locate him because of the storm. It took the doctor several hours to make the six miles to the hospital and everybody got really worried for his safety. When he finally reached the hospital Dr Hrynkiw went into surgery immediately. He managed to save the patient’s life who is currently recovering but would have died without Hrynkiw’s self-sacrifice.
