People say that there are many extremely awful ways to die and that one of them is hypothermia – freezing to death.
Marvin Schur was an elder man without living relatives from Bay City, Michigan, who died at the age of 93 after freezing to death in his own home. Reportedly, the man had past-due electricity bills for more than $1,000. Bay City Electric Light & Power installed an electricity limiting device in his apartment and told him he had 10 days to pay the bills. The old man couldn’t pay his debt in time and after he reached the limit, the device shut down his power. The man froze to death in his apartment in a temperature around 0 degrees C. His neighbors found him and immediately reported the case. According to them, the man had troubled hearing, so he probably hadn’t even understood the electric company’s terms.
However, it’s reported that it’s illegal for all utility companies to disconnect the power from the beginning of November till the end of March if the client is older than 65 years old.
