A 91 year old grandmother received a $122 fine for swinging her rocking chair too noisily.
The police in Quebec, Canada, fined a 91 year old woman $122, because she was allegedly making too much noise by swinging on her rocking chair and watching TV.
According to official reports, an unnamed 91 year old grandma residing in Saguenay, Quebec, was wronged by the local police when they handed her a ridiculous fine earlier this April. The reports show that on the 17th of April the woman’s neighbor from downstairs called the police and asked them to take immediate action, because the granny was allegedly swinging her rocking chair and watching her TV too noisily. The police not only thought the neighbor’s request wasn’t ridiculous, but they even did something more ridiculous. The cops arrived at the address and confronted the woman. They gave her a $122 ticket fine and even handled the situation with an intimidating for the woman approach. The elderly lady wasn’t able to comment on the case, but a local lawyer named Charles Cantin addressed the issue publicly.
Charles stated that the police’s actions were “embarrassing” and inappropriate. He claimed the woman shouldn’t have received such a fine for such a “crime” and that he’s currently working on finding a way to get the $122 fine overturned. The local police, on the other hand, have also been moved by the officers’ actions. A spokesperson for the local police station stated that there’s a current investigation going on, which will eventually decide if the 91 year old should have to pay the $122 fee, if it will be decreased, or if she will receive just a warning instead of the ticket.
Let’s hope they find the right solution.
