Whether letting toddlers play with technology gadgets is good or bad for them has turned into a widely discussed topic over the last few years. Most experts state that spending a lot of time in front of an iPad, an iPhone or any other piece of technology can be harmful to a young child’s development. However, in certain cases your child’s ability to use such a gadget might even save your own life.
Bentley Toone from Tucson, Arizona was totally obsessed with the app FaceTime. He would often take his mother Laura’s iPhone and FaceTime with friends of hers. Laura has told most of her friends to ignore the calls but, luckily, one of them didn’t listen to her. The young mom was outside playing with her dogs and her children – 2-year-old Bentley and her 4-year-old twins. Suddenly, one of the dogs, that had been recently fostered by Laura, attacked the dog she owned. Trying to break it up Laura got bitten herself and quickly began losing a lot of blood.
She begged her twins to call 911 but they were too afraid to touch the blood-covered phone. Then Bentley stepped in, took the phone, wiped it and FaceTimed a friend of Laura’s. Just when the mom was about to faint she heard her friend pick up and screamed that she needed help. Laura’s friend called 911 immediately and a paramedics team managed to get there in time to help. If it hadn’t been for Bentley’s ability to use FaceTime something horrible might have happened to his mother. Luckily, the 2-year-old boy understood that the iPhone wasn’t only for fun.
