One heroic 10 year old kid managed to save his own great-grandmother’s life in a car accident. What’s more shocking is the fact that playing a lot of Mario Kart was the thing that helped him act properly in the dangerous situation.
Back in mid-2013 a 74 year old woman named Darlene Nestor was driving down the road from Cheyenne Wells to Golden, Colorado, US, with her great-grandsons aged 10 and 4. Her 10 year old grandkid Gryffin Sanders remembers how his great-grandmother was talking about wildlife and she just lost consciousness behind the wheel in the middle of her sentence. The woman passed out, but her feet were still on the gas pedal, so the car continued speeding up the road. Instead of panicking like any other 10 year old kid would do in his place, Gryffin tried to wake up his great-grandma and when he couldn’t do it, he bravely took over the situation.
The 10 year old couldn’t manage to reach the breaks because Darlene was in his way. Instead, he grabbed the wheel and turned the car towards a mud ditch on the side of the road. He steered the vehicle into the mud and Darlene’s foot fell off the gas pedal from the bumpy maneuver. This made the car slow down and eventually hale to a stop in the mud. One of the people driving by called the emergency services and Darlene was rushed to a hospital. It turned out she had suffered a mild heart attack behind the wheel.
Fortunately, Gryffin’s driving skills and bravery saved his great-grandmother’s life, his own life and the life of his 4 year old sibling. When he was questioned about the accident, the 10 year old kid was extremely modest about it. He stated that he had been playing a lot of Mario Kart, that’s why he knew how to react and what to do in the vehicle.
