A hidden $200,000 was found stashed away in a treetop located in a campsite in Germany.
A bunch of hikers discovered a money tree in real life and they just might get the chance to walk away with the whopping sum of $200,000 they found on the tree.
The anonymous hikers were hiking in a campsite in Mirow, Germany, when they came across 50 banknotes of Euros lying on the camping grounds. As it turned out, the money had fallen on the ground out of a bag containing a lot more money – the equivalent of $200,000 in USD. The bag had been hidden in between the branches of a treetop. Official reports claim that the bag had been hanged on a pipe set between the branches. After a severe heat wave hit the Mirow area earlier this July the boiling hot temperatures had apparently caused the pipe to bend. Thus, the elastic bands securing the money in the bag had broken and had allowed some of the banknotes to fall out of it, which has eventually led the hikers to the hidden cash.
Ever since the finding was made public the person, who owns the campsite, has claimed ownership of the $200,000. However, the local police don’t buy the story and is still on the lookout for the real owner of the money. The policemen have promised to award the anonymous hikers, since they handed in the money. They are about to receive a total of $6,000 from the hidden cash. However, if the real owners of the money aren’t found in the upcoming 6 months and the police can’t confirm that they are the owners, the whole sum will go to the hikers.
The local authorities believe there might be a connection between the hidden cash and a fire, which broke out in a cottage located on the campsite.
